PaperJacket Subscription & Payment Terms
1. About these terms
These terms govern PaperJacket memberships, AI Creation Credits, payments, cancellation and refunds. They form part of the PaperJacket Terms of Use.
2. Membership plans
PaperJacket memberships are monthly plans. Prices are in Australian dollars plus GST:
| Plan | Monthly price | Monthly AI Creation Credits |
|---|---|---|
| PaperJacket | A$29 + GST | 10 |
| Creator | A$59 + GST | 60 |
| Studio | A$89 + GST | 120 |
| Publisher | A$119 + GST | 200 |
All plans include the PaperJacket publishing workspace. The plan differences are the monthly AI Creation Credit allowance included with membership.
3. Billing, renewal and GST
Memberships bill monthly on a recurring basis. Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period until you cancel it — you do not need to renew manually.
Your renewal date is shown in your account. Prices include GST at the applicable rate, shown at checkout and on your receipts.
Payment is processed through Stripe. You can manage your payment method and download receipts from the secure billing portal.
4. What AI Creation Credits are
AI Creation Credits are service-usage units included with your membership (or bought as packs) that are used for selected AI-generated visual creation within PaperJacket.
AI Creation Credits are not money and have no monetary value. They are not stored value, are not a deposit, are not transferable to another account and cannot be redeemed or exchanged for cash.
5. When a credit is used
One credit is used when PaperJacket successfully produces and delivers a usable chargeable visual output to you. Examples of outputs that are chargeable include:
- an AI illustration;
- a regeneration of an earlier generation;
- a character reference image;
- an environment image;
- cover artwork;
- an AI visual edit; and
- colouring-page artwork and Story World Map images where the operation is chargeable.
6. When a credit is not used
You are not charged an AI Creation Credit when:
- a request is blocked by safety checks before generation;
- the AI provider fails to produce a result;
- the generated output is rejected by PaperJacket quality or safety checks before delivery;
- a technical failure prevents the output being delivered to you;
- the operation is not a generative visual creation (for example, cropping, resizing or placing an image on a page); or
- you simply reuse an existing asset in your project.
In all of these cases the operation either does not complete or is not chargeable, so no credit is used.
7. If you choose not to use a delivered result
If a generated asset has been successfully produced and delivered to you, the credit has been used for that generation — even if you later decide not to use the asset in your publication.
A regeneration is a new generation: it produces a new result and may use another credit. This is how credits work, and it is disclosed here so you know it before you purchase.
8. What is included without using credits
Not every AI operation uses credits. AI Creation Credits apply primarily to selected generative visual creation.
Writing assistance, planning help, analysis, publishing checks and other assistance features are included in your membership subject to reasonable platform limits. We do not promise unlimited use of any feature.
9. Rollover of subscription credits
Unused subscription credits roll over from month to month while your membership remains active, subject to a rollover cap of three times your plan monthly allowance:
- PaperJacket — maximum subscription credit pool of 30;
- Creator — maximum 180;
- Studio — maximum 360;
- Publisher — maximum 600.
Credits above your plan cap do not continue accumulating. Rollover applies only while your membership is active.
10. Purchased credit packs
You can buy additional one-time credit packs:
| Pack | Price | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| 25 AI Credits | A$15 + GST | 25 |
| 75 AI Credits | A$39 + GST | 75 |
| 200 AI Credits | A$89 + GST | 200 |
Purchased credits are kept separately from your monthly subscription allowance. Purchased credits expire 12 months after purchase — the expiry date is shown in your account before and after purchase.
Purchased credits are used only for the same chargeable visual creations described above and are subject to the same no-charge protections.
11. Cancelling your membership
You can cancel at any time from the billing portal in your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid period — you keep access to the membership features through that period.
After cancellation, your projects, publications and account content remain yours and remain available under the non-member features of the service.
12. Changing your plan
You can change between plans at any time from the billing portal. Where a change alters the price, Stripe applies the change at your next renewal or prorates it under Stripe standard practice, as shown before you confirm the change.
13. Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, we (via Stripe) will retry the payment. Your account may show a payment issue state during this time, and membership features — including AI generation — may be unavailable until payment succeeds.
If payment continues to fail, the membership may be cancelled by Stripe after its retry schedule. We will tell you by the means available to us before that happens.
14. Purchased credits after cancellation
AI generation features require an active membership. If your membership ends, any remaining purchased credits stay on record in your account, together with their original expiry dates.
The conditions for using remaining purchased credits if your membership is not active — including after you reactivate a membership — will be confirmed in this document before you purchase, and your wallet history always reflects your actual credit record.
15. Refunds and remedies
Australian Consumer Law applies to our services. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies your non-excludable consumer guarantees, and nothing here limits your statutory rights.
As commercial rules:
- a failed or rejected generation is never charged — the no-charge protections in section 6 apply automatically;
- a successfully delivered generation is generally not refundable merely because you decide you do not like the result;
- change-of-mind refunds on membership periods already used may be limited; and
- if a service fails to meet a consumer guarantee, we will work with you on the appropriate remedy, which may include a refund, credit or re-supply.
For any refund request, contact us through the PaperJacket contact form or the billing portal.
16. Customers under earlier arrangements
If you purchased Publishing Credits under an earlier PaperJacket commercial arrangement, your existing entitlement continues to be honoured under the terms applicable when you purchased it. Those entitlements are separate from memberships and AI Creation Credits and are shown in your account.
